Case study 1
A customer telephoned and explained they had just had twin babies and their old central heating system could not cope with the extra demands for hot water. The third bedroom was now too small. The conservatory the previous owners built did not have a radiator, and as a result the lounge was always cold. They also requested a new boiler and wanted the radiators sizing correctly in each room and a thermostatic radiator valve installed on each one.
After a consultation with Transgas Services it was decided that the new boiler would be better situated in the loft, freeing up more cupboard space in the kitchen. Removing the airing cupboard would enlarge the third bedroom and the cylinder, pump and zone valves could also to be moved into the loft.
The desire for a better hot water supply and with the cylinder going into the loft the only option available was to install an unvented hot water cylinder. This gave good pressure to all hot taps and the recovery time was excellent as it was situated close to the boiler (A combi would have been useless to supply a house with five people constantly making demand for hot water). A system boiler was considered to be the best option for the choice of boiler.
Each radiator in all the rooms was sized correctly and the pipework altered accordingly. Thermostatic radiator valves were fitted allowing the customer control of every rooms temperature, especially important with young babies. A radiator was installed in the conservatory and the lounge radiator was moved to accommodate a future building project.
The job was carried out to the highest of standards and all the old tanks/cylinders/radiators and pipework were removed from site.
